The interactive installation The Marriage Of Life is about the experiences, commitments and expectations of five young women. The visitor experiences a sacred ritual and is presented with a question; do you want to marry life?

The visitor is given two options. If you choose to commit yourself to the life that we know today, you will receive the comfort of security, but will be expected to stay within the gender norms, go to college, work a nine to five job, give birth to children, and you will die one of many.
If the visitor decides not to marry life, you end up in the void of uncertainty. The visitor is free, however, it is up to themselves now to seek and decide their own life’s purpose. You find yourself in an empty wasteland of endless possibility. Without a degree or standard partner, you will receive a lot more questions at the dreaded Christmas dinner.

The installation is in the form of an altar, with symbols from different religions.
The symbolism used in this work reflects on the semiotics used in Western society to make sense of our lives. Similar to political, spiritual, cultural, and social ideologies it gives us guidelines, rituals and rules to follow in order to live life ‘’successfully’’. Skin and flesh tones and broken off body parts were used to symbolise the broken relationship we have with raw, authentic life. The symbol of the wedding ring and the flesh ring represents the connection between humans and life.
